## Why does your knee feel stiff this morning?

First steps can feel stiff and slow. The knee might loosen as you move. The ache may return after stairs or a longer walk.

This doesn’t always mean new damage. Rest can stiffen an older knee. Swelling can also block a full bend.

## What usually causes the soreness?

A smooth, slippery cover called cartilage coats your bone ends. It helps your knee glide and spread your weight. That cover can thin and roughen over time.

Your X-ray may show wear that doesn’t match your soreness. The bones, joint lining, muscles, and tendons can hurt. Tendons are strong cords connecting muscles and bones.

Your tendons carry muscle pull during each step. They’ll ache after more stairs or walking than usual. Weak thigh muscles can make each step harder.

## What can help at home?

Keep your knee moving in a comfortable range. You’ll often manage several short walks more comfortably. Change one activity and check your soreness later.

Cold can calm swelling after activity. Warmth may ease stiffness before you move. Don’t place either one directly on your skin.

A cane or brace may reduce strain. It isn’t right for every knee. Your own doctor can check whether medicine is safe.

## When is an exam worth your time?

Arrange an exam when soreness limits daily tasks. Lasting swelling also matters. Don’t ignore locking or sudden weakness.

QC Kinetix offers regenerative treatments made from your blood, fat, or marrow, the soft center inside bone. Licensed staff prepare part of it at the clinic. They use a needle to place that part into your knee.

The goal is to ease soreness and help you move. It isn’t proven to grow back worn cartilage. Bring earlier knee images and describe which movements hurt.

## How does your knee react to uneven ground?

Uneven desert ground won’t let each step land the same way. A paved route keeps the surface steady. You’ll learn more by repeating the same distance.

Turns and downhill steps load your knee in different ways. Stop before your stride changes. Check the next morning for extra soreness or swelling.

The Scottsdale clinic is at 9220 E. Mountain View Rd., Suite 210, Scottsdale, AZ 85258. A drive may leave your knee stiff. Give yourself time to stand and loosen it.

1. A concise review of mesenchymal stem cells for functional cartilage tissue engineering sets out the underlying problem: articular cartilage is avascular and has very limited intrinsic repair capacity, which is precisely why engineered and cell-based approaches are being pursued - and why building tissue that matches native articular cartilage in composition and mechanical function remains an unsolved engineering problem rather than a delivered clinical product.

The RESTORE trial - a participant-, injector- and assessor-blinded RCT of 288 adults aged 50+ with symptomatic medial knee OA (Kellgren-Lawrence 2-3) - compared three weekly intra-articular PRP injections against saline placebo, with co-primary endpoints of 12-month knee pain and medial tibial cartilage volume on MRI. PRP did not beat placebo on either. It is the single best-designed test of the specific claim that PRP changes joint structure, and it was negative.

A systematic review of the discordance between clinical and radiographic knee osteoarthritis: many people with severe-looking x-rays have little pain, and many with disabling pain have modest radiographic change. This is the reason a post-treatment scan is a poor proxy for how someone feels, in either direction.

The AAOS third-edition clinical practice guideline for non-arthroplasty management of knee osteoarthritis is the orthopedic profession's own GRADE-style appraisal of the same options a regenerative clinic sells; it is the benchmark against which any 'regenerative' claim on this topic should be read, and it rates the strongest support for exercise, weight loss and self-management rather than for injectables.
