# When should someone examine your knee?

## When has the soreness gone on too long?

Soreness may nag through sleep, stairs, or errands. You may plan each day around it. That’s enough reason to arrange an exam.

You don’t need severe soreness before you go. An exam can find the likely cause. It can also spot urgent trouble.

## Which warning signs need quick help?

Get prompt care for a hot, red knee with fever. Major swelling after an injury also needs attention. Don’t wait if you can’t bear weight.

A cold or numb foot is urgent. Calf swelling with chest discomfort also needs quick help. Sudden breathing trouble calls for emergency care.

Night sweats or lasting night soreness deserve a call. Unexplained weight loss does too. Tell your own doctor about any cancer history.

## What happens during the clinic visit?

The clinic staff ask where your knee hurts. They’ll watch you walk and bend. They check swelling, balance, and tender areas.

QC Kinetix’s medical providers are licensed clinic staff who examine you and discuss regenerative treatments made from your blood, fat, or marrow. Marrow means the soft center inside bone. Earlier images may help, though new ones aren’t always needed.

Share your health history and every medicine. Mention blood thinners, allergies, or recent illness. Explain which movement you want back.

## What should you ask before deciding?

Ask what they found during your exam. Then ask why one choice fits those findings. An X-ray alone shouldn’t decide your care.

Get the cost and expected visit count. Ask about aftercare and activity limits. You’ll need another option if soreness doesn’t improve.

Take time before choosing. Be wary of pressure to decide quickly. Before choosing, say what staff will do and why.

The 2019 ACR/Arthritis Foundation guideline makes STRONG recommendations for exercise, weight loss in people with overweight or obesity, self-efficacy and self-management programs, tai chi, cane use, tibiofemoral bracing, topical NSAIDs, oral NSAIDs and intra-articular glucocorticoid injection in knee OA. Notably it does NOT strongly recommend any biologic injectable.

A systematic review of the discordance between clinical and radiographic knee osteoarthritis: many people with severe-looking x-rays have little pain, and many with disabling pain have modest radiographic change. This is the reason a post-treatment scan is a poor proxy for how someone feels, in either direction.

A prospective longitudinal study of 64 patients with acute medial meniscus posterior root tear managed non-operatively found 76.6% continued non-operative care and only 23.4% converted to surgery (median 6 months). Pain fell from 7.6 to 1.3 on an 11-point scale within 6 months and stayed there — even though structural degeneration on MRI progressed. Symptoms and structure moved in opposite directions.
